Before you sign up, check this first

Need an email for a coupon?
Follow these steps from signup to verification

Stores usually ask for an email to verify your address, create a member account, or send promotional offers. First ask yourself: Will you still need this address after receiving the verification code?

If you only need a quick, one-time verification, a temporary email can keep future promotions out of your main inbox. But if you need order updates, returns information, or account recovery, use an address you can access over time.

01 / Decide before you enter an address

Choose first, enter your address second.

Not every “sign up for a coupon” offer requires just one verification code. Choosing an address based on what you’ll need later is easier than trying to recover an account.

Only need one verification code

You’re done once verification is complete

For example, you may only need to confirm an offer once, without paying through the account or relying on email to view orders or reset your password. If the store accepts temporary addresses, you can use a temporary email.

First, check that you can save or view the coupon on the store’s website, rather than having the only copy sent to your inbox.

Need order updates and after-sales support

Your email still matters after checkout

Shipping updates, e-invoices, order cancellations, and refund confirmations may arrive days later. A temporary address is initially valid for only 3 hours, so it’s not suitable for keeping these records.

Recommended: Use your regular email, or create an alias that continuously forwards to it and keep forwarding enabled.

Long-term membership and password recovery

You’ll keep using your points, balance, or member benefits

A store may use your signup email to verify your identity later. If an expiring address stops working, you may miss account recovery emails, so don’t use one as the long-term contact for an account you care about.

Recommended: Choose an email account you can keep accessing. If you use an alias, make sure you retain access to the account that receives forwarded messages.

Compare four ways to avoid promotional emails

When in doubt, plan for what you might need later. For accounts you’ll use to place orders, collect points, or save payment details, don’t risk missing important updates just to avoid promotions.

02 / Coupon signup checklist

Two pages,
five steps to get your code.

Keep the store’s signup page open and open your Inboxtick inbox in another tab. Complete each step in order. Never share your verification code with anyone.

Open a temporary inbox
  1. Get an address and check its countdown

Open the temporary inbox and wait for the complete email address to appear under “Your temporary address.” A new address is initially valid for 3 hours. If you still see “Getting your address,” don’t enter it on the store’s form yet.

Check: Make sure the address is visible and the remaining time is counting down before continuing.

  2. Copy it to the store and check for extra characters

Click “Copy” next to the address, then paste it into the store’s email field. Check that the beginning, @ sign, and domain are all there, and remove any spaces at either end. Then accept the terms, submit the form, or request a verification code as instructed by the store.

Check: If the store says it doesn’t support this type of address, switch to an email it accepts. Don’t keep trying different addresses.

  3. Return to your inbox and wait for the real email

Leave the signup page open and return to Inboxtick to check for mail. The inbox checks automatically every few seconds; you can also click “Refresh” above the message list. Inboxtick doesn’t control how quickly the sender sends or delivers a message.

Check: The default Amazon and eBay messages are marked as demos. Don’t use their example codes to sign up.

  4. Open the email and check the sender and code

Open the real email for the action you just took, then check the sender address, subject, and purpose of the message. A familiar sender name doesn’t guarantee an email is trustworthy; be careful with links and attachments from unknown sources.

Check: Enter only the code from the email for this signup on the original store page. Don’t reply to the email or share the code with customer support or strangers.

  5. Complete verification and check the coupon on the store’s site

Enter the code as instructed on the store’s page. If you requested a new code, follow the store’s guidance; an earlier code may no longer work. After verification, check your store account for the coupon, eligible products, minimum spend, and expiration date.

Check: Verifying your email doesn’t guarantee you qualify for the coupon. If it hasn’t appeared, follow the store’s promotion instructions.

03 / Examples by shopping scenario

The coupon may be the same,
but what comes next can differ.

These examples show how to assess common signup flows. They don’t mean any particular store will accept temporary email addresses.

First food delivery order

Check whether email is used for order updates

If you only need one verification code and can handle orders and support through an app account you’ll keep using, a temporary address may work. But if you need email for refunds, disputes, or receipts, use an address you can keep accessing.

Before signing up, check: Does the store define a first order by phone number, device, or order history? A temporary email won’t make an existing customer a new one.

Beauty club member pricing

If you want to keep your points, don’t use an expiring address

Checking an offer once is different from creating an account for ongoing shopping. If the account has points, birthday rewards, or purchase history, use your regular email or a dedicated forwarding alias.

After signing up, check: Is marketing email an optional, separate checkbox? Choose what suits you, and don’t confuse essential membership updates with marketing subscriptions.

Travel deal alerts

A quick deal search is different from tracking prices over time

A temporary address only receives mail while it’s valid, so it’s not suitable for waiting weeks for a price drop alert. If you want ongoing promotions, consider a forwarding alias. For flights, hotel bookings, and itinerary changes, use a reliable email account you can keep accessing.

Before booking, check: Where will booking confirmations, changes, and refund notices be sent? Don’t rely on an address used for a one-time coupon to manage an entire trip.

04 / Troubleshoot verification issues

No code yet?
Check first, then request another.

Don’t keep clicking “Send.” Read the store’s instructions, then check the address and timing to avoid cooldown limits or having multiple codes invalidate one another.

The store says it sent the code, but it’s not here?

Compare the full address on the store’s form with the address at the top of your inbox. Check spelling, the domain, and any spaces at either end. Make sure the store actually says “Sent,” rather than asking you to finish verification or submit the form. Return to your inbox and wait for the automatic check, or refresh once. Seeing a demo email doesn’t mean the real message has arrived.

Not much time left. Should I keep waiting?

While the address is still active, click “Extend by 3 hours” in your inbox. If successful, this adds 3 hours without changing the address or existing emails. Use the updated countdown as your guide. When the address expires, it and its emails are deleted, so don’t wait until the countdown reaches zero if you need to keep using it.

The page says the email isn’t supported or requests are too frequent?

Follow the store’s instructions. If it doesn’t accept disposable addresses, switch to an email account it supports. If it asks you to wait, try again when the page allows. Don’t keep changing temporary addresses, repeatedly request codes, or try to bypass the store’s checks. Email forwarding aliases aren’t guaranteed to be accepted by every store either.

I received several emails. Which code should I use?

First confirm that each message is a real email from the store for the action you just took, then follow the store’s code expiration and resend rules. Requesting a new code may invalidate the old one, but check the store’s instructions. Don’t mix up demo codes, codes from other websites, or expired codes.

Still no email after checking? What next?

If the store allows another code, try once after the specified interval. If you still can’t receive it, use an address the store accepts or contact the store about verification. If Inboxtick itself shows an error getting an address or refreshing, contact support@inboxtick.com with the time of your attempt and the error message. Don’t send verification codes or login credentials.

05 / After you sign up

Got your code?
Check these three things.

  • Save the coupon details. Confirm that the coupon is in your store account, and note its expiration date, minimum spend, and eligible items. Don’t rely on a temporary inbox as your only record of the offer.
  • Keep your order and support records. Before placing an order, check where order, invoice, shipping, and refund updates will be sent. Save anything you need to keep from your store account somewhere you can access long term.
  • Update important accounts promptly. If you signed up just for a coupon but later decide to keep using the account, change the email in your store account settings while the temporary address is still active. Verify an address you can keep using, and make sure it receives mail before you stop using the temporary one.

When a temporary email expires, the address and its messages are deleted. Later promotions sent to it won’t reach your main inbox. However, it won’t clean up promotions already in your main inbox or cancel your store account.

To help you decide, read our guide to unsubscribing, filtering, temporary addresses, and forwarding aliases; for details on data handling and usage, see our Privacy Notice and our Terms of Service.

Only need it once, or will you need to keep receiving email?

For short-term verification, get a temporary address. For orders, after-sales support, long-term memberships, and account recovery, use an email you can keep accessing. Don’t let a coupon determine the contact address for an important account.
